Important Information About Us

⭐️ All things Information⭐️

I wanted to take a moment to answer a few questions we get continuously:

First and foremost, we are a foster based rescue in Pennsylvania, with foster homes in Bedford, Somerset, Blair, Cambria, Allegheny, Westmoreland and even Dauphin counties. Our main base of Operations is the Bedford/Somerset area. We do not have a specific location at this time because we are not a shelter. We eventually will be building an adoption center, but that will come in the future once donations pick up and we can get grants. Every dog we have available for adoption is currently in a foster home so that we can learn more about them, their likes and dislikes, their behaviors, etc. and so they can learn what a family is supposed to be before transitioning to their forever.

Each available dog can be found under the photos tab on this page-go to albums and then “Adoptables.” They can also be found on our website. The status and bio of each dog is listed, are updated daily as needed, and follows a method similar to a traffic light.

💚Accepting Applications💚-please apply! They’re still waiting for a family

💛Meet/Greet Pending💛 this means that a dog has had an adopter approved and is in the process of meeting the current family and their dogs. You can still apply but please note that if the meet goes well, adoption will follow. If the meet does not go well, we will reopen applications and if you have applied and have been approved, we will then set up a meet with you.

❤️Adoption Pending/Not Accepting Apps/Apps on Hold❤️

this means that:

-a dog has a family and will be adopted, the adoption day just has not arrived yet

or

-the dog is not yet ready to find a home

Please do not apply

Fosters are always needed. Please do not apply to be a foster with the intent to adopt. We understand that occasionally there are foster fails (I’ve done it myself!) but without fosters we simply can not continue to save lives. If you think you may want to adopt a dog you are planning to foster, then fill out the adoption application instead.

Again, all of our current dogs being posted are in foster homes. When you are approved to foster, we match you with a new dog that will be brought in from one of our shelter partners.

Fostering lasts anywhere from a week to 8 on average. Sometimes longer if there is a special case. We provide everything the dog physically needs (toys, treats, crate if needed, food, blanket, leash, collar, ID tag) and all medical care and prevention. All we ask is that you provide a safe, loving environment, work on some basic training (sit, lie down), take photos and provide updates weekly. We have had a vast number of people apply to be fosters lately to avoid the adoption application process or to see if they’ll be a good fit for their home.

Fosters still have to go through this process. If you are interested in adopting a dog, please just fill out the adoption application. Once you are an approved adopter, you may still foster if you are not sure if you’ll be able to let the dog go to a new home. But We do not accept fosters to “try out dogs just to see if they’ll be a fit.” Dogs aren’t commodities, they are beings with souls and who have emotions. Moving them around from place to place can be extremely detrimental to their mental health. We will do our very best to match you with a dog who suits your home and lifestyle every time.

Fostering is literally one of the most important aspects of rescue and we need dedicated fosters who can let the dogs they’ve helped flourish, go to great homes when it’s their time. It’s not easy, but you can save countless lives.

Fosters must be committed to fostering the dog until it is adopted. From the time it arrives until it goes “home.”

Adoption info:

Our fees depend on the age of a dog.

0-8 years $350

9+ years (seniors) $200

All adoption fees include:

All distemper vaccinations

All Parvovirus vaccinations

All Hepatitis vaccinations

All Leptospirosis vaccinations

All Parainfluenza vaccinations

Rabies vaccination

Lyme vaccinations (for most)

4DX bloodwork test for heart worm and tick borne diseases

Fecal testing for parasites

Microchipping and registration

Spay or neuter (unless medically unadvised)

Deworming if needed

Any other medical care needed before adoption

And heartworm and flea/tick prevention to get you started.

The average cost for us to completely vet one animal with the items above is $650-$700...as long as everything is perfect and there are no emergencies or outlying issues/sicknesses that happen. When that occurs we have spent over $16,000 on one dog. More often than not, it is usually a vet care average of $1200-$1400 per dog brought in. We are not making money off of adoptions. We are strictly nonprofit and rely on donations to vet our animals and give them the care they deserve.

At this time, we only adopt to residents of PA, MD, WV, Ohio, DE, parts of NJ and NY and Virginia. If you have a question as to if where you live is accepted, please message us. This is in place in case an issue arises and a dog has to be returned, and also because most dogs have already been transported from quite a few states away and it can be too stressful on their mental state depending on the dog. And also because we are certain that there are dogs who need homes just as badly in shelters and rescues located in your own state if it is not one of the above.

Adoption applications can be found on the top menu of our website. Please answer every question honestly. We do require a $15 application processing fee to start your application. If a donation is not made for this fee, we will not process your application. This usually prevents any impulse applications and we are able to determine that the person is seriously interested in one of our Angels. Please also double check the email you enter and all phone numbers.

Your fee can be submitted by:

Venmo @AbbysAngelsAnimalHaven

CashApp $AbbysAngelsAH

Zelle 814 279 7287

We no longer accept Paypal due to fees they charge.

When applying, please also understand that we are all volunteers and have full time jobs as well. If you have not had a volunteer reach out within 48 hours, please check your email (including the spam and junk folders). If you haven't received one, please reach out. We are human and can sometimes miss things.

To note before applying: all current animals in your home must be spayed/neutered unless medically unadvised (vet must confirm) and must be up to date on all legally required vaccines.

Applications can take anywhere from two days to a week to process depending on your references. Please inform them someone from our organization will be calling so they are prepared to return a call if they do not answer. After your interview and references are completed, one of our volunteers will be in contact to schedule a home visit with you. The entire approval process and adoption completion may take 1-3 weeks total. There may also be other applicants for the dog you have applied for. Please note during your interview if you are Interested in another dog that would we determine would be a good fit, as there is only one of each dog no matter how many people apply. We appreciate your understanding.

Once an adopter is chosen, we inform every applicant by email. An adoption day will be set up with the director of the rescue. In most cases, we bring the dog to your home and he/she will arrive with a bag of food to get you started and an adoption bag—with toys, treats they like, a blanket they’ve had since they’ve arrived to give them some comfort during the transition, a leash, slip lead, collar and any medicines they are currently on.

We do not accept deposits on any dog, nor will we hold a dog for a person. Adoption fees are exchanged once adoption paperwork has been filled out and the dog is in its new home.

Meet and greets. We normally do not let anyone do a meet and greet unless they are an approved adopter. This means they have submitted an application and fee, we have checked all references, background check and have done a home visit to be certain this will be a fantastic home and fit for one of our Angels. The exception being adoption events or public events in which dogs are in attendance.

If you are an approved adopter, and have not adopted, you have first choice of the next dog you are interested in, as long as we feel the dog is the right fit and has the right personality for their home. If you think you may be interested in a dog in the future, you can always apply now, we will process your application and will keep it on file for 6 months. After 6 months we would require an update as to any changes in your home or status.

We are always looking for volunteers for fundraising, events, application processing, home visits and transports. If you are interested in any of these areas please send us a message or email.

Saint Nick
By Nicole Wertz 15 Dec, 2023
Nick is a young boy around 6 months old, possibly has some shep and a bunch of other things floating around in that DNA. He has Demodex mange. He is emaciated and has lots of weight to gain. His back legs have a habit of crossing when he walks. That may improve with the right nutrition as he heals.

aysa and her mom
By Abby's Angels Animal Haven 10 Jul, 2023
Aysa joined us on Sept 16 2022 through the combined efforts of CAnine REscue - CARE Inc., Joey's PAW , Code3 Animal Rescue Aviation Team, and Pilots N Paws . Aysa was found in April of that year, in the state of Indiana, with a catastrophic spinal injury. She was found with her deceased mother, both suspected hit by cars. Aysa was taken to a vet clinic…. And there she lived in one of their kennels. At the end of august, Joeys Paw had been contacted by CARE , to see if they knew anyone who could help. Aysa is completely paralyzed from the bottom of her ribcage down, and If no one could be found, Aysa would be euthanized, as living in a kennel at a vet clinic is not a life she should be experiencing. Joeys Paw asked us, we said yes. Mark took up the task of planning her freedom flight and his team at Code 3 worked together with Pilots and Paws to get Aysa from Indiana to PA. Every pilot fell in love with her and we can’t thank them enough for getting her to us. When Aysa arrived that Friday evening, she went home with the director to be assessed, evaluated and to await her foster being ready for her. Upon arrival we noticed she had a very infected sore on her hip. It was cleaned, treated. But it was concerning. Over the weekend, we learned she loved baths. She needed her bladder expressed, but she could defecate on her own. She Wasn’t fond of other dogs, wasn’t real happy with new people in her space she didn’t know….. but her resilience and strength shone through every moment. The next week, she met her new foster mom, and she really didn’t care for her at first, but I told her that Aysa would be fine, have faith. And she was. She went to the vet where we learned how catastrophic her injuries were. And that they could not be fixed with surgery, with any treatment. At that point in time, her leg was ravaged with infection. We honestly didn’t know if her prognosis was good at all. And then Aysa said, hold my ball. Her leg healed, other cuts and infections creeped in, but those healed too. She got a scooter that she hated, a drag bag she’s not fond of, a set of wheels she only tolerates for short burst of time (the way her back is broken, she can not sit straight in a chair), a stroller she loved taking rides in, and an insane amount of toys, treats, and love. She bonded with her foster mom, they settled into a routine, they became two halves of a whole. Aysa got stronger. She learned she likes to walk on her front legs. And while a lot of people are horrified at that—we don’t make her do it. We have given her EVERY tool for assistance getting around and she gives us a middle toe. She wants to do it on her own. She’s determined. She’s full of fire. She’s courageous and she’s a survivor. We’ve been posting her for ten months—not one inquiry. So we sat down and had a very long and very serious talk about Aysa’s future. And here is what has been decided. Aysa will be staying with her foster mom… no longer a foster, but as a forever. She’s been home since the week after she arrived. They have their routine down. She is safe, loved, cherished, extremely well taken care of, and she is most importantly….. happy. We do not know what Aysa’s future holds in regard to how long she’ll continue being the firecracker she is, but we do know she won’t know even one second without love and kindness. Aysa will remain under Abby’s Angels for her vetting for life because we do not know what time will bring. So we may still ask for things for her from time to time. We hope you’ll help if needed. And in the meantime—thank you to her foster, now forever mom. For loving her, for saying yes, for caring for her, for being the savior she needed and always will. We appreciate you and are so grateful and extremely happy for you both. To Joeys Paw, Code 3 Animal Rescue …. Thank you for your continued assistance with everything this girl has needed. We couldn’t have been what she needed otherwise. The first three photos are her now with her forever mom. The rest are the first we ever got of her, and her journey the first week until she went home… we just didn’t know it yet.
